Martha McDaniel

Martha has become an active member in a growing community of Cancer Survivors and Activists.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 and later joined the Women of Faith and Hope as a member while she was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.  It was the support and sisterhood that WOFAH instilled that inspired Martha to spread the message of early detection throughout her community and church.  Martha has truly been enlightened, educated and empowered about breast cancer issues because of WOFAH.

Martha was so inspired by the leadership and dedication of Novella Lyons that she became a Support Group Facilitator for Women of Faith and Hope in January 2004.  In her role as a community activist, Martha serves as an Ambassador for the American Cancer Society.  By acting as an Advocate for Patient’s Rights, she has had the opportunity to lobby the local and state government for funding of cancer research, screening and expanded access to health care.

She also serves as the Ambassador of Health at Faith Emanuel Baptist Church.  Her primary function in this role is to provide information to her church and its surrounding community regarding health care issues.

Martha is a lifelong Philadelphia resident.  She worked for the United States Postal Service for 37 years before retiring in 2003.  She has been married to Leni McDaniel for 33 years and has 2 adult children.
